CentreForum runner up in ‘think tank of the year’ awards 2007

11th October 2007

CentreForum, the liberal think tank, was runner up in Prospect magazine’s ‘Think-tank of the year’ awards last night.

Chair of the judging panel and editor of Guardian Public, David Walker said:

“Runner-up as think tank of the year is a relative newcomer, which has had a good year—with excellent publications on Britain's demographic future, early-years education, planning and social care — and which has muscled its way on to the scene with a first-rate set of seminars and events. Liberal Democracy may not be enjoying the best of political fortunes, but its intellectual base has been regenerated thanks to CentreForum.”

Jennifer Moses, Chief Executive of CentreForum commented:

“To achieve this award in only our first full year of operation shows the relevance and potency of liberal ideas in contemporary political debate. Over the last year we have developed a clear liberal narrative, focused on the politics of individual empowerment and social mobility, with particular emphasis on education.

“We will continue to develop these themes in the coming year, whilst beginning also to explore the politics of globalisation. This will begin with the launch of ‘Globalisation: a liberal response’ later this month, at which Liberal Democrat shadow Chancellor Vince Cable and FT columnist Sir Samuel Brittan will present a liberal riposte to the Prime Minister’s recent promise of "British jobs for British workers".”
